Choosing Joy August 7, 2018 – Posted in: Uncategorized

It’s a very simple idea, but one that’s surprisingly difficult for me to implement- spending more time enjoying little pleasures. It’s been a long journey in my life of gently extracting myself from survival mode and learning to relax. I thought I was doing pretty well at this, until I got a nice reminder from my dear tarot card reading friend Marcy saying I could try choosing joy, and that my motto has pretty much been the opposite of that.

So my experiment this summer is finding ways I can choose to enJOY myself. And so often I find that it’s such a simple thing, like really looking at the bright colors of my food on the plate before I eat. Feeling the cool air on my neck when I put my hair in a pony tail. Listening to my earrings jingle in my ears. The best thing about tuning into these simple pleasures is that even when life gets challenging, I can still sense these sweet little things and take comfort in them. So often I still get caught up in my head and forget all about joy and pleasure, but when I remember, it makes such a huge difference in my life, that I really wanted to share.

To me it’s yet another reason to put on jewelry, turn wearing a ring into a practice of feeling your fingers, your  bracelet into a game of listening to the chain clink together.

I’d love to hear the simple ways you choose joy in your life?
